In recent years, Singapore’s dessert scene has witnessed a growing appetite for globally inspired, thoughtfully made treats. Consumers today are not only looking for something sweet—they’re seeking comfort, nostalgia, and quality. okieco Singapore caters to this shift with its signature banana puddings and cookies, made from scratch and infused with the heart and soul of homemade desserts. What started as a craving during a difficult period has grown into a standout dessert brand beloved for its quality and originality.

A Pandemic-Era Idea That Stuck.

okieco was founded in 2020 by Siti Nurhayati and Muhammad Izhaq who launched the brand during Singapore’s COVID-19 lockdowns. Initially intended to bring a New York dessert experience to Singapore, the idea came to life with the launch of their first product: banana pudding. Inspired by a craving from Nurhayati’s sister, the founders realized the market lacked such offerings. The goal was simple—introduce a dessert not commonly found in Singapore, and do it well.

The name “okieco” itself is a playful nod to their original concept. It’s an anagram of “cookies,” a nod to their intent to eventually offer cookie-based treats. While banana pudding became their signature, cookies did make their way into the menu later. The founders wanted a name that felt light, fun, and rooted in what they love—cookies and comfort food. Today, the brand continues to be anchored in this simple joy of creating something delightful from scratch.

What Sets okieco Apart.

okieco’s menu features two main offerings: banana puddings and crunchy cookies. Their pudding, which requires multiple stages of preparation, is left to sit overnight so that the flavors fully develop—much like the process used for desserts like tiramisu. This meticulous approach ensures the product is best enjoyed the following day, allowing the layers of flavor and texture to shine. The cookies, introduced later, add variety while staying true to the brand’s commitment to handmade quality.

One of the key aspects that distinguish okieco from other dessert brands is its “made from scratch” philosophy. Unlike many banana pudding sellers who use store-bought biscuits, okieco prepares its pudding, cookies, and all components in-house. No jello mixes or shortcuts—just honest, homemade goodness. Additionally, the products are Halal-certified, reflecting the founders’ intention to make their treats accessible and inclusive to Singapore’s diverse communities.

What’s Next for okieco.

In terms of growth, okieco is actively working to make its desserts more accessible across Singapore. Currently available at SUTD and through online orders via their partner outlet, gomgom Sandwiches & Bowls, the brand has recently expanded to a new, more central location. With a new store now open in the Dhoby Ghaut area in Singapore Management University, okieco is reaching new customers and offering more convenient access to their products.

Looking forward, the founders are committed to long-term sustainability rather than fleeting virality. Their focus is on building a reliable presence in the dessert market and continuing to innovate while staying grounded in their values. Whether through new flavors, locations, or dessert concepts, okieco’s journey is rooted in staying true to the product and people they serve.
